Summer Fun - Altitude, Library Events, How To Train Your Dragon, Math Camp, Museum,

Altitude
Auntie Di likes to treat the kiddos to a day out. When she called this summer, the kids requested we go back to Altitude. They enjoyed three hours of jumping and Auntie Di and I spent some time catching up while watching.

Library Events
Raptor Rescue Center
We learned a lot during this presentation. A few highlights were: The screech owl...it was so tiny and although I never thought owls were cute this one was. Both kids said, "it looks like a beanie boo!" Seeing the peregrine falcon up close. The kids have loved this bird since their Wild Kratt days. The speaker demonstrated the difference between hawk feathers and owl feathers by flapping them. What a huge difference for the owl who needs to be stealth to get its prey - his feathers make no sound! Seeing a hawk cough up a "pellet" which was mouse hair from yesterdays meal. Yeah...kinda gross but also a unique experience for sure!

Sci-Tech Discovery Center
One of the favorites was when the speaker combined fog with the air bazooka (who knew) especially when she used the home-made one out of a trash can.

How To Train Your Dragon
These two kiddos are totally crazy over the How To Train Your Dragon movies. They have watched them on every road trip this summer and listen to the soundtrack of at least one of the movies almost daily. They can't wait for Halloween when they plan to dress as the characters. (They actually planned out the next three Halloweens but I said they may want to pick their favorites this year in case they aren't quite as excited in three years! :)) Anyway, this was a fun memory of something these two have bonded over. Makin even made a case for his Echo Dot to look like Toothless.

Math Camp
GCA had its first math camp, put on by one of Lorelei's teachers. This was a no-brainer for us as it was affordable and Lorelei could use every advantage she can get when it comes to learning more for math as it is one of her biggest struggles. The week before I heard over and over, "I can't wait for math camp." She was so excited to see her friends five whole days in a row! She had an absolute blast. I cannot believe how many fun games Mrs. Edwards came up with for them!

Makin's Fun (while big sis was in math camp!)
This kiddo is definitely a quality time kid, so he really ate up the 1-1 time while Lorelei was at camp.

Panera Date

Soccer and playground time with Ryker.

Some free summer bowling.

Starbucks and Target with Julia.

Main Event with Julia and Aaron

Putt putt too!

Museum With Friends
Since we got a membership last fall we decided we needed to make sure and head back to the Perot Museum a few more times before our pass expires. We get so busy during the school year so I wanted to try a summer visit. It was crowded but the kids still had fun.

My kids wanted to go right to this to fly like an eagle.

Younger kiddos sitting in a dinosaur footprint.

These three loved controlling these trucks.

Nayeli, Jaedynn and Lorelei

Finished out the day with some of their own "rock music." ;)

July 4th

We spent our 4th in Canyon this year.

Our morning started with the parade.

Lorelei loved all the horses we got to see.

Some favorites were the floats that sprayed us with water! (So hot!!!)

Nana and the kiddos.

She wanted me to get my face painted too.

Funnel cake for lunch...sure.

Makin liked trying to land the frog on the lilypad.

Lorelei, Makin and Nici liked building with Lincoln Logs.

Brad and Makin always love a game of corn hole.
John and a friend of the Rogers were up for a few matches.

Giant Jenga was a hit!

Happy 4th!!!

Visit To Canyon

Next, we headed to Canyon to see the Rogers family.

The kids loved seeing their pet hedgehog.
Although I grew up only 2 1/2 hours from here, we had never been to the actual canyon! We discovered on this trip that it is actually the second largest canyon in the U.S. It was a short trip because it was hot, but it was still great to see.

We headed to an adorable small-town bookstore complete with its own wardrobe leading to the children's section.

We found a great little air b and b house and loved all the space we had for our stay!

One of our favorite parts was coffee on the patio in the morning.

Amanda and I met for coffee the morning we left and it was a good chance to do some catching up.

Glad to have mom along for the trip too!
