Last Day Of School for 3rd and 5th

It was definitely a different feeling on our last day this year, but you all know how much I like to just keep on going with our traditions! So, here is our last day!
These kids are getting so big!

The school had a last-day parade and we enjoyed making posters.

Our last day ice cream treat!

School - Second Semester - Wrapping up 3rd and 5th

One way Lorelei practices her spelling words:
I make the words she needs to practice into different patterns for her to practice her words on. :)

Lorelei loved making an ocean biome!

At school Makin's class acted as their own solar system.

Solar System project, which included writing a fact about each planet on the back.

A common homeschool day way to sit for this guy.

Edible Cell Project

Measurements around the house.
(Lorelei did a similar assignment with a protractor)

This girl works so independently and makes me so proud.
Much of her school work was done in her room this year.

Couldn't resist an End Of Year Interview this year. :)

Early May Moments

Knex Building

Harry Potter Food Day
One of our Covid 19 disappointments was having to reschedule our family vacation. The kids had been SO looking forward to Universal because they love all things Harry Potter! So, the day we would have spent at Universal became HP food day. We had butterbeer pancakes with pumpkin juice for breakfast, made pumpkin pasties for a snack and then had chicken legs, mashed potatoes and corn for supper. (The kids didn't end up liking the chicken legs!)

Lorelei nervous that her brother is in charge of egg-cracking.

They both really liked the process of making the pumpkin pasties.

Visits to the Stream
We have discovered a little gem close to home and have made multiple visits.

Catching tadpoles and fish to look at them for a bit before putting them back.

Who is that tall girl?!

Stone skipping.

After our first trip Makin decided to make his own fishing pole. He used pvc pipe, a screw and nut, paperclips hot glue, a ping pong ball and fishing line and added that to a hook and weight he found on our first trip. He caught two fish!
This is how a 9-year-old goes fishing...mom you keep an eye on my fishing pole. :)

Loved seeing two sets of a mama duck with her babies following close behind.

This day the kids explored a new area and they called the mud pit quicksand.
Makin was quite proud he found the spot and asked the rest to check it out.

Mother's Day
This year we stayed home. Brad fixed breakfast for me and then I cooked one of my favorite dishes for lunch.

Strawberry Picking
We were so excited the strawberry patch could open and the Scotts joined us for strawberry picking one morning.

We decided to try a strawberry plant.
Although we only may get one strawberry a week its sure fun to see the process of the strawberry growing!

More Tent Building
We have reached the level of having a second story in our tents.

Life Under Quarantine Phase 2 (Approximately Weeks 4-6)

30 Day Lego Challenge

Makin built a wagon to make it across the country, fastest car around, snow scene, bridge, pizza party, hospital, fence to keep dog from escaping, jousting arena, safe no one can crack, dream bedroom, flag for your land, aliens are invading - build a war robot, robot for aliens, house out of one color, and a snowmobile

Lorelei built a wagon to get across the country, a pizza, a snowy scene and a jousting arena.

Tents and Books
Audiobooks - audible offered free audiobooks so the kids enjoyed a few.

Their love of reading has really helped during all this at-home time. They are both excitedly re-reading the second half of the Harry Potter series.

Read Alouds - We have gotten some good Read-Aloud time and have had quite a variety of books! We've loved reading: The Swiss Family Robinson (that one we may have finished during spring break but I can't remember!), Rules For A Knight (Highly recommend even for adults!), The White Knights, The One and Only Ivan, Where The Mountain Meets The Moon

Backyard Games
"The Farmer and the Bull"
A made-up game using the rope-ball made of duct tape. Because why not.

Telescope
We stayed up a bit late one night to check out the super moon with the telescope.

Saturday 1-1 Time with Dad
Lorelei had some patio time coloring with Brad and Makin decided they should practice their chipping.

Sprinkler Time
Sure doesn't replace our swim time but we are making it work!

S'mores
We enjoyed smores one Saturday night.

Lego Train Track Builds
Jerry brought Makin some extra train track a while ago and the kids have enjoyed building with it.

Basketball and Trails
We are able to walk to an elementary school from our neighborhood so we took the chance to shoot some baskets.

We have also spent time riding bikes on the trail and the kids have enjoyed some exploring time under a bridge.

Haircuts
We gave Brad a second cut and Makin decided he was getting too hot with his long hair so I got to play barber again. ;) This time we very much learned that if we have to do this again it will be in the grass!

Rare Treat Seeing Friends
The kids haven't really left the house, but because of doing my many house projects, we had quite the stash of school supplies and toys we wanted to give friends who have younger kiddos who can use them. We decided to make a drop off run to their house and the kids actually did a great job of playing 6 ft for the most part!

Sword fighting with sticks - perfect distance game for boys or course!

Girls just chatin'!

Cinnamon Rolls
Sunday morning cinnamon rolls have become a quarantine tradition.

Jump Rope
We ordered long playground-type jump ropes and Makin and I have been working on improving over the last week or two. We have gotten much better but I have a long ways to go until I'm even close to what I could do in elementary school! So far Lorelei doesn't jump much but hoping she decides to soon!

Bug Catching
One of Lorelei's favorite backyard activities. There is a rolly polly in there if you can find it. ;)
