Play-date In The AC

Now that the temps are so warm, we are back to having play-dates in the house, although looking for a slight cool down the rest of this week so hopefully some outside time coming up. We were happy to have friends over to play this morning. They even did a great job posing for pictures. :)

Side note...got my weekly pregnancy email today...77 days left!

Organizing - Step One - Kitchen Island

We can check one "need to find on craigslist" item off the list! Last night we picked up a small kitchen island that is in great shape. We needed the extra storage for bottles and such and I'm trilled at the idea of wheeling it where I need it when its cookie baking time again! :)

Of course Lorelei would prefer to use it as a fort. :)

"If You Give" Books

I have quite the stash of books I acquired while in college to prepare for teaching, which includes the "If You Give" series of books...If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, Pig A Pancake, Moose A Muffin...and the list goes on. My collection has been on the shelf and Lorelei has taken some time to pull some out. Most are too wordy for her still, but these books have been a huge hit! These are actually some of the only books she will let us read to her these days. Glad to have some variety in our reading and we can start using some of my books. :)

We Love Blueberry and Strawberry Season!

Two of Lorelei's favorite fruits are blueberries and strawberries so she is loving having them in abundance this time of year. This morning she just had them with yogurt. She also requested Elmo and the American flag to be with her in her highchair. :) She totally posed with the spoon waiting to put it in her mouth as well. Someone is used to getting her picture taken...

Cooling Off

This week has been quite the hot one. Lorelei has not really been in her pool most of the week though, and she really does not play in there very long when we take her out there. So I was very surprised when she said "side (outside), poo (pool)?" (Surprised she wanted to go in the pool and even more surprised she actually put two words together to ask a question! yay!) I was thrilled when she played out there for probably almost a full hour! She enjoyed "painting" with water to wash the windows and also the balcony. :) She also requested that we put the slide in the pool and she really enjoyed going down that and splashing into the water...progress from when we first got the pool and she did not think this was so much fun. :) Wonderful to keep her entertained and I get to sit in the shade!

Cute story: The slide had been in the sun so I told Lorelei we need to wait to use it because it was too hot and needed to cool off...she then started to blow on the slide to cool it off like she does with her food! Cracked me up! :)

28 Week Appointment

That's right...we have reached the third trimester this week! Wednesday was my doctor's appointment where I had to do a glucose screening test (check for gestational diabetes). This meant I could have only protein for breakfast...you know I'm a cereal/muffin/something sweet kind of girl so this is not big on my list, but I'm just lucky enough to have a husband who loves to make eggs. Brad and Lorelei both LOVE eggs so they were thrilled with breakfast. Thankfully the test came out great! I don't want to think about how cranky I would have been if it hadn't! Heart beat sounded good and that is pretty much all there is to report.

As for the report on the pregnancy side of things...Brad probably thinks I'm going through some kind of early nesting stage. We have come to the conclusion that we will be staying in this apartment for the duration...meaning we don't want to sign a year lease on a house...which means MAJOR reorganization in order to save our sanity here...which means crazy prego lady. :) We have taken a few baby steps in the right direction and Saturday Brad put up an extra shelf in the laundry room, and we have also gotten some more shelving for Lorelei's toys. Lots, lots more in the weeks to come. I'm also stalking craiglist for a few things we need to better organize. When I saw my weekly email saying there are only 80 some days left I realized we better get in gear and get busy! :) Little Mr. Stahl will be here before we know it. :)

First Real Movie!

The local movie theater offers FREE kids movies on Tues, Wed and Thursdays each week. Each week they have two different movies. This was the first week it started and I was sooo excited that they were showing the Curious George movie! Lorelei is a big fan so I knew this was the perfect show to try out taking her to for her first real movie!

I have tried to learn my lesson and not tell Lorelei anything first thing when she wakes up or she will be expecting it to happen right that minute...so I didn't say anything right away, but then when I needed her to get dressed I finally did tell her she needed to get dressed for a surprise...that got her...surprise is a big thing these days and she was so happy to hear and anticipate whatever it was. :) She kept saying "pri" which I actually caught on video! Yay! She was also thrilled that I popped popcorn and put it in baggies...so not a typical morning snack!

Here we have Lorelei getting her first glimpse at the big screen! When I told her the surprise she was very excited. We did have to wait in line a bit but got perfect seats with no one in front and a bar she could climb on in case she got antsy. :) She liked the idea of her own seat but when it kept folding up on her she decided to sit on my lap instead...which I was so happy about because I rarely get much cuddle time with this girl! :) She polished off her entire baggie of popcorn throughout the movie and sat very very well. She finally got off my lap for about the last 10-15 minutes and walked around a bit and climbed on the bar. What a relaxing morning! I loved the movie just as much as she did. :) I would highly recommend renting it! :)

It was so fun to share this with her...hopefully sometime Brad can take her since he loves going to the movies. I'm sure this will be a fun daddy/daughter thing to do when she is a bit older.

Trash Walking (Title compliments of Brad)

Two of our favorite girls posing so cute for the camera after a long hot walk to Mt. Trashmore! As you can see Lorelei is definitely rosey cheeked from our time outside that day...and you don't even want to know what I looked like! One of those days you have to take a second shower during nap. :) These last couple of weeks have had very high humidity and we are really feeling the summer heat along with it. It was nice to get out and hopefully I shed a few lbs in sweat before my dr. appointment on Wednesday. :)

Daddy Day :)

We had a fun Father's Day, although it was definitely not a routine day for us. :) Brad did get a couple of home-made gifts this year, including a frame Lorelei painted entirely by herself! :) Forgot to take one of the finished product but this is her painting it, which she LOVED doing. :) She did a second layer that afternoon with green paint. :)

Found a picture closer to the finish. :)

Here we have Brad and Lorelei enjoying some Starbucks in Williamsburg. :) We drove there for two reasons on Sunday. 1) picking up a double stroller from craigslist...yikes I realized other than clothes this is really the only thing we have gotten prepared for having two children...so glad to have it checked off the list and excited to use it as it pushes a million times better than the strollers we have now! 2) going to try a new church there...it would be a long ways to drive but it was a nice congregation and the pastor was very friendly and kept us awake! :) We were thankful again for padded benches and carpet which equals a somewhat less exhausting hour for us keeping Lorelei quiet.

We made it home easily and Lorelei even stayed awake long enough to go down for a late nap. Unfortunately nothing much more exciting to report about the day, however I should at least say that Lorelei is such a lucky girl to have such a great dad and we are both so thankful for Brad! :)

Family Beach Day

We had a beautiful Saturday and decided it was definitely time for a beach trip. It had been a couple of weeks since our last visit so was highly overdue! Of course, I have issues passing up a Saturday without any garage saling...so we decided to do both...probably will not do that again. :)

Left the house right after 8 and hit up one community that was having around 40 garage sales in their area. Had some great finds including a bath toy Lorelei LOVED playing with tonight, of course a few baby boy outfits, and then the big unexpected find - a bookshelf! Now Lorelei's books are nice and organized with room to spare. :)

Got to the beach around 10:30 and enjoyed about two hours of play time. With the umbrella up, it wasn't hot at all and we got to somewhat relax and enjoy our time while Lorelei played in the sand.

Pictures you may want to know more about...middle picture - Brad and Lorelei enjoying the funnels I got last Saturday, what a great sand toy idea I got from someone! :) Bottom left - Lorelei excited to get her cup of water. :) Then next to that is Brad filling up the big sand bucket of water while she filled her cup. Middle right - Lorelei happy in her carseat after getting home...we didn't bother to get her dressed after and she stayed awake amazingly well on the way home, enjoying some goldfish snacks. :)

We then topped off the day with Lorelei only taking at 30 minute nap (grrr!), trying out our infant carrier on the Check's double stroller as we are possibly getting one off craigslist, and then checking out a rental home in the area! Was a crazy day. :)

Flip Flops for Free Smoothies Day

That's right...we got free smoothies this morning! Thankfully Sara reminded us that today was flip flop day at Tropical Smoothie so the first 100 customers to come in with flip flops received a free smoothie! Since Lorelei and I both had a pair, we even got two! :) Lorelei carried that huge cup all the way home drinking it all the way. :) She also wore her cowboy hat (some blog post in the future when she will let me get a good picture) all the way there and the whole time in line. I carried it home of course... We did this last year as well and it happened to fall on the weekend my mom was visiting - thinking of you Mom and wish you could have come with us again!

After our smoothie run all I heard the rest of the morning was "Yeeey! Yeeey!" Which is Lorelei asking for "Lily" (we have our y and l sound confused at the moment) so we were very glad when the Check girls came over to play.
The girls had fun playing with toys and tried out the kiddie pool for a short while. The best moment was when they started the music in the kitchen and holding hands to dance together. So cute! :)

Finger Painting - Take Two :)

Oh yes, we dared to try finger painting this morning! We were near Michaels and I had been putting off trying this even though I was pretty sure she would love it, so I went ahead and got some nontoxic/washable (two very key words here) finger-paints.

This kept her occupied for 45 minutes!!! A mother's dream come true! However, since she wanted to keep on painting, I then felt the need to multitask since it was time to get the meat in the crockpot for supper...so then of course seemed to be when she had the most trouble, so I was concerned about getting the meat on her papers, and paint in our food, but it all worked out eventually. :) Not without an eating incident of course...although I had told her not to put it in her mouth, by that point 30 minutes had passed and she probably forgot and all of a sudden I heard, "uuuummm" (yum) and turned to see purple paint all over her chin...thank goodness it was nontoxic!

Ever since we found out we were having a girl I was excited to be able to do kid craft projects with her...so I'm so excited that she loves doing this stuff so much. Can't wait till she is a little older and we have so many more we can do! But for now I will probably just hear "pain (paint), pain!" :)

"No, No, Noah"

This is a book Lorelei recently got from her Nana about Noah's ark and a monkey not sure he wants to get inside the boat. :) She LOVES the "No No Noah" part and loves to say it. :)

Yogurt

I could never get her to stay in her high chair and play with Cheerios like normal babies...but she was happy to paint with yogurt the other morning! :) At least it gave me time to do the dishes. :)

Bring On The iPad

Your first thought may be...what? They spent money on an iPad!? Nooo way. :) This is one of Brads "perks" through his job that he earned by working a lot of overtime on the iPad project for his website...he gets an iPad of his own on loan while he is working for forrent. :) It will be fun while it lasts though! At first I was less than enthused especially since its not ours "forever" but Brad quickly changed my mind when uploading just a handful of toddler games for Lorelei to enjoy...she LOVES it and it kept her totally amused in the car this morning, not to mention different times the rest of the day! :) So much fun!
Unfortunately I took several videos but they are too HUGE to get into Picasa to edit, so this is the only one I ended up with. The program she is using in the picture is actually her favorite. She just touches a picture of the animal and a full screen real picture of the animal and sound comes up, multiple for each "cartoon" picture...this also includes cars, musical instruments, etc. She had lots of fun dancing to the different instruments and even got out her drum to play along. :) The one video that was smaller is her playing the piano. :) IF we figure out how to get the other video's added I'll let you know!

Lorelei all dolled up for trying out a new church this morning. Thanks for the dress Grandma! She is also eating string cheese...guess its a double cheese for ya. ;)

As for the update concerning naps...she has taken an hour nap most days this week. Today amazingly enough she finally did catch up on some of the sleep she has missed...naturally when we don't expect it and don't get to catch a nap with her! She was basically up at 6 and very cranky a little before 9 so we decided to try laying her down for a morning nap...sure enough she slept an hour! Thankfully she still slept another hour and 15 min this afternoon as well! Just glad to have her get a little more rested...hopefully we will start getting better sleep soon, but the teeth seem to be taking their time so if they are the culprit this could be a while! :)

Realized I poorly neglected the update concerning Baby Stahl! Here we have Lorelei posing with baby brother. :) We had our appointment at CHKD (the amazing children's hospital here) on Tuesday and were very impressed with the doctor that will be doing the surgery. He has done somewhere between 5,000-6,000 cleft lip/palate surgeries and also goes over to other countries as part of Operation Smile. He made us feel confident we were making the right choices. The lip surgery will be within the first month more than likely, and he will try to do both lip and palate in the same surgery unless the palate is very severe. There will be other surgeries following that, but this will be the most major one I believe...the timing of the surgery will depend on how he is doing feeding etc. As the speech pathologist told us "we want to fatten them up and get them ready for surgery!" (We met with her after the surgeon and she gave us some advice on how we will be doing the feedings etc.) If everything heals up according to plan etc he will definitely be able to feed just like a normal baby by 4 months...including baby food etc right on schedule, so really the first few months until the palate is totally healed up will be the only time he should have much trouble with feeding. We were also able to meet up with a family (thanks to the surgeon's coordination I might add) who's daughter is now 10 and has gone through all of her major surgeries etc. It was great to be able to talk to them and hear them rant and rave how wonderful these people are...and they have to drive 3 1/2 hrs every time they come! How lucky we are to live so close we can make it in less than 30 minutes!

I assume most of you reading this know we having been looking forward to a move to the Dallas area and hoped it would be happening NOW. However, God seems to have other plans. After meeting with the people at CHKD we realized a move at this time really just isn't ideal. We had given ourselves until July to still look at jobs, but think it will just be too much to try and find a doctor for both myself and Baby Stahl and we need to stay here where we have some very experienced professionals to do his surgery, particularly the first surgery. We are planning to do more research to see what options we have for later, and hoping the right job for Brad will come up after all of the commotion here has subsided...hoping this winter for sure. We are now looking into other rentals we can possibly move into (yuck an extra move!) just so we have a bit more space when Baby comes.

Whew! Will try to stay a bit less wordy next post for you. ;)

Botanical Gardens Play and Picnic

Lorelei now gets very excited when I tell her we are going to "the gardens" as I call it. She remembers what that means, so this morning as soon as I mentioned it she said flow (flower) pree (pretty) and continued to say "go" and try to drag me out the door. Tried to get it on video but only got the flow part and then she wanted to see the video of herself. If it makes you feel better I WAS at a stoplight. :)

I have a confession. I'm now officially IN LOVE and on my way to addicted to Starbucks. :( I normally would do great avoiding it until Pumpkin Spice Lattes were in season, but now I have discovered that that little kick of caffeine (and I even get half decaf because of baby of course) can really help my morning along as being pregnant with a toddler is exhausting... and also discovered the Black and White Mocha...and the Cinnamon Chip scone...yeah we are in trouble! I have also gotten Lorelei understanding what the scone is so this morning in the drive through she was saying "co! co!" Somehow I will resist most of the time because of calories and finances, but oh it was much needed this morning!

Lorelei and I watching airplanes take off at a little look out in the Botanical Gardens. She got to see one plane and was very excited. "Big!" was her reaction. :)

Can you believe it!? They are all looking somewhat the direction of the camera and no one is crying! :) Love these beautiful guys. :)

We made this a moms event for our playgroup this week and intended to play in the water, but it ended up being cloudy and cool so we just enjoyed the other things in the children's garden, such as the swings. :) As usual Lorelei was happy just to run around and dig in the dirt.

The Bonfiglio's had to head home but the Check girls and Stahl girls stayed for a picnic under a wonderful tree. I can't believe how much our girls have grown up since last spring's trip here! One of these days we will have to take them back to their bench for a photo shoot. :) As you can see they enjoyed their lunch (sort of, basically ate each other's snacks) and had fun just walking around under out tree canopy. :) Very relaxing noon hour before heading home!

P.S. I'm very nervous to say anything, but Lorelei has been taking better naps! She has worked her way gradually back to about 1 1/2 hrs, but I'm also medicating her for her teeth pain right before nap. Hopefully the nap rebellion is over...for now at least! :)

Oops! :)

When using our "back up pjs" (the ones we only use when I didn't know it was time for laundry) Brad accidentally put them on UPSIDE DOWN. :)

Attention Readers...The Stahl Visit Blogs are done!

Just wanted to let you all know that I was able to get the Stahl visit posts done! Jeanette tried getting the CDs to me as early as possible and even mailed them the day after she got home! Those CDs didn't end up actually having the pictures on them though, so second package later we were able to get all of her pictures. Now I need to get our CDs burned for her! Anyway, just go down and click on "older posts" or something like that at the bottom and you can find them. Enjoy!

New Oceanfront Playground

Thanks to the Checks again for letting us know about the new playground on the oceanfront! :) We enjoyed our morning here and it had so many fun features I have not seen before. We can even enjoy the sand and watch boats coming in. Great morning! :)

Happy Birthday Brad!

Today we got to celebrate the most special and wonderful man in the Stahl household! :)
We enjoyed a trip to the park (next post) in the morning and then used a birthday coupon to get Jersey Mike's Subs for lunch...Brad LOVES their subs. :) Really around here birthdays are all about food...it is the way to a man's heart after all. Then of course we enjoyed our "Avalanche Cake" as I am now calling it. :) Brad was able to go enjoy a movie in the afternoon and then of course his favorite fajitas for supper! :) We love you Brad!

Enjoying part of his birthday present - cheesy popcorn from Jody's (yes more food!) and he even shared with Lorelei...great mid morning snack. :)

And of course, the cake. :)

Cake Bakers

We enjoyed our Saturday, despite the predicted 5:30 AM wake up call, which followed a 4:15 wake up for about 45 minutes before going back to sleep for 30 more...She woke up at 4 the day before also but went back to sleep easily since we did not go in. Then all of a sudden it hit me - check her teeth! Sure enough we have a molar coming in...so that possibly explains the early mornings, and then I think she just combines that with the fact that she thinks she needs no sleep and its misery for all. Today was very rough although she did take a 30 minute nap...better than nothing but still nothing we were hoping for to make up for this whole week. She was VERY ready for bed by 7 pm. Now...what was this post again??? ;)

To celebrate Brad's birthday tomorrow, we spent some time making his cake today! Brad has usually requested things like brownies with mint ice cream... very easy stuff like that for his birthday. He would have been content with brownies this year as well, but Lorelei now totally associates birthday's with cake and blowing out candles, SO I thought I should splurge and do a cake. Brad was happy with the idea of my attempt at a chocolate peanut butter cake - and so the adventure began. :) Lorelei is sort of getting to the age where she can help but it makes me more nervous than anything. This time went pretty well and she LOVED being able to pour the peanut butter chips into the batter. I would say her other favorite would definitely have to be licking the spatula. :)

A few minutes after telling Brad this kind of cake (two layers in the 9 in circle pans) was really no big deal...I found out I was full of it. Not following up on my thought to coat the pans with flour probably had a bit of something to do with it...but needless to say the circles were basically crumpled up cake by the time it was all said and done. Although the frosting did not glue as well as I had hoped (eh hem even after two cans of it) we do have something that resembles a cake to eat tomorrow. I kept telling myself that I was just so thankful it was not Lorelei's cake I was making for a big party or anything like that, and just the three of us will not mind a crumbly cake. :) Better luck next time!

Memorable moments/quotes from today:
Lorelei getting her first lick of the batter and when I asked "Is it going to be good cake?" She had these huge eyes and just nodded her head happily and said "Num Num!" :) Although I'm not sure how much of a compliment that really is because later that day she put a bubble wand in her mouth and as we told at her to take it out I said, "Was that good?" and got the same "Num Num" reaction. :)

Brad watching me attempt to put the cake together... "Man you did screw that up didn't you?" :) All said in love as he is the most understanding and easy going husband I could ask for. I was already telling him before that how much I screwed it up! :)

Looking forward to a fun birthday celebration tomorrow! :)

The Great Nap Rebellion

A look at the good old days, when we were trying to wake Lorelei up from her milk coma during her first week with us! I didn't think it appropriate to take a picture of her during her "great nap rebellion" as I am now calling it, so figured this would have to do.

We have all known we have a very strong willed girl on our hands, but the last few days have been pushing me to the limit. This week Lorelei has progressively taken shorter and shorter naps, until Thursday, when she then refused to take any nap whatsoever! She screamed for about 1 1/2 hrs before I finally tried putting her in bed with me reading books...which lasted for a few books but then she was quickly getting up to go and play. A couple of weeks before this she would happily go down for naps, sleep for usually 1 1/2 hr and then happily go to bed at night. Well now happily does not seem to be in her vocabulary. To make things even more fun, she is also progressively waking up earlier each morning. Today (Friday) she refused to go back to sleep after waking us up at 5:45. Not sure how either of us are going to react tomorrow having to wake up at 5:30 AM on a Saturday. Umph.

Thankfully I have the internet these days, and put out a plea on facebook, as well as looked up some information at babycenter.com....other moms have had this problem around this age! The general consensus is that it is a phase trying to exert her independence even more, and I need to stick to my guns and keep the routine as much as possible. From the sounds of it for most people it lasted a week or so...so I guess I'll see where we are at by the end of next week. I can reassure you she needs the sleep...this morning she fell asleep in the car on the ride home from the doc, and then after an hour of reading and rocking and telling stories this afternoon (and her telling me "eyes, nigh nigh", her eyes were tired, but NO that didn't mean she needed a nap), she fell asleep on my lap, only to start her fits as soon as I tried putting her in the crib. She does need her sleep!

Hopefully I can last through this phase as well...and I guess I should be thankfully (HOPEFULLY) that it isn't happening with a new baby in the house when I'm severely sleep deprived?! :) Will keep you posted!

Lily's Backyard

The girls of the Check house were generous enough to let us come over and play in their amazing backyard this morning! Following our last ultrasound/echo cardiogram we made a trip over there to play with Lorelei's friends. (Baby Stahl's heart looks great, nothing to worry about there and he is weighing in at 2 lbs which is a bit above average, he would not turn and give us a face shot so we are just going to have to wait until September!)

Lily has some fun summer toys to play with in her backyard and was great about sharing them with her friends. Lorelei loved the swing and also tried out the bat/ball/tee and enjoyed that as well. They even got to run through a sprinkler and play with a water table! Oh and we cannot forget the stray cat that had to join in the fun, which Lorelei and Lily were both infatuated with. Unfortunately I learned that the word "no!" is not just being overused with her parents...Lorelei had no hesitation to tell that to her friends when they wanted a toy she had, as well as giving them a little push away! Hopefully this is a short lived phase, but I think I'll have to be the one making sure my kid is behaving at all times!

Low: ugh, no naps

Highs: good ultrasound, Lorelei seeming to enjoy playing around the house a bit more, getting to hold sleeping Emma (hey at least I can get somebody to sleep, can't beat that little baby melted right on your shoulder...thanks for sharing her Sara!)
