Fittin' In More Fun

Golf Tournament Weekend

Brad enjoyed a weekend in Nebraska golfing with his cousins.

Guinea Pig Sitting

The kids were thrilled for a chance to guinea pig sit for about a week and a half. So much fun. (Yes my schoolroom was feeling a bit like a zoo there for a bit.)

Lorelei worked on positive reinforcement training with them and absolutely loved it. She put together a "Piggy Palooza" to show their owners what they learned while they were away.

Garden Progress

While our salsa box got eaten up by a very hungry caterpillar, the watermelons prevailed...until they didn't!

Clearly we need to work on the pest control part of our gardening moving forward...

Tooth Removal (Although this hardly qualifies as FUN)

Makin needed a tooth removed from his palate in order to prepare for his upcoming surgery. Thankfully it went better than we expected and we were so thankful he didn't even have to be on a soft foods diet either!

Funday Friday

We didn't have any big fun plans for these hot days, but game time and pool time is still a win. So thankful for lots of quality time with these two!

Adventure Saturday

Marty B's Coffee and an antique mall/flea market was a fun family outing.

Early Morning Patio Time

We get super excited when the mornings start to get a bit cooler (70s or 80s) and we enjoyed some time with Makin (and coffee) on the patio before we started school.

Penderwicks

This has been a series the kids and I have been loving for our read-alouds!

Kicking Off The School Year - 9th and 7th

There is no denying it...those grades sure look...OLD. How in the world are we here with a high schooler and a middle schooler!?

We are homeschooling again this year! While we thought University Model was the perfect solution for us and were all-in on that plan originally...for many reasons we have decided that homeschool is now a better fit. As of right now we really believe this will be the plan for the rest of the kid's school career and we are absolutely thankful that Texas has A LOT to offer homeschoolers. We are especially excited about the time together and the opportunities we will have with this school plan!

Side note: It occurred to me this spring/summer as we enjoyed the outdoors so much in May and we are basically hibernating in August...it would make so much more sense for our summers to be May-July...which we now have the power to make happen! Lorelei will be taking several classes outside of ours at home, but only one of them goes into May, so I'm very excited about this early start in order to get an early finish! :)

Picture time! :)

Summer Fun: Pool Time, Engineering, Sweet Treat, Adventure Saturday, Book Club, Water Parks and Bonus Movie Night

Keepin' Cool In The Pool

The best way to beat the heat! :)

Late summer we typically are either in the water or in the AC. :) Summer hibernation!

Sometimes swimming is best done in your own version of quiet so you can get along...

Tired after a RC car walk...they got a second wind eventually.

Engineering Challenges

Makin enjoyed putting together a card tower and demolishing it with his RC car for one of the Mark Rober engineering challenges.

He hasn't wanted to do as many challenges as expected but I'm happy when he does!

Sweet Treat

A couple of special ice cream treats were on the kid's summer bucket list. YUM.

Adventure Saturday - Murals, Museum, and Peach Orchard

We enjoyed a bit of art, history, and yummy food on this adventure Saturday. :)

This little-known piece of history was so fun to learn about! During WW II thousands of British pilots learned to fly at training schools in the US. (They weren't able to train at home due to the war taking place there...) This location was the first of six US training schools. It was essentially a secret training program, which is why the bus in one picture says "aviation school".

Fun Mural In Back of Bookstore

This mural depicts actual people who worked, trained, or taught at the
No 1 British Flying Training School.

Silk Escape Maps - Pilots carried lightweight maps like these to help them find their way back to friendly lines if they were shot down over enemy territory.

Yummy Texas BBQ and live music!

Peach pie from the orchard store to enjoy when we got home!

Book Club

I have enjoyed a summer book club and we met at the library most weeks.

Took this pic of the kids as they waited for friends to arrive.

While the moms discussed the book, Lorelei and her friends mostly looked at books, and Makin and his friends mostly played games.

Water Parks - Hawaiian Falls (no pics) and Aquatic Center

Another item on the kid's summer bucket list!

Bonus Movie Night

We originally wanted to see this movie at the theater during their special summer movies...but I waited too long and there weren't any good seats left! So, I decided we should just have a bonus movie night as a family and watch this movie we hadn't seen yet anyway. :) It turned out to be a cute one! It was a great way to spend our last official night of summer break!

(Yes it's very early August! I have a plan for school I'm very excited about so we are ending summer break a bit early!)
