Grandma

My Grandma, Shirley Schoof-Brosig, passed away on January 7th at the age of 93. She spent 35 years married to my Grandpa Schoof, and after he passed away, she was later married for 25 years to my Grandpa Heinz. She raised four amazing children and enjoyed special moments with many grandchildren.

Some of my favorite memories with her are...

Being read to (especially Dinosaur Comes To Town).

Trips to the zoo.

Coloring with us on the floor when we were young.

She and mom sitting on her back patio in the screened-in tent visiting and snacking...with wine too of course.

How much she loved flowers.

When would ask mom to play piano while she did the dishes and how much she absolutely loved to hear her play.

That she made an afghan for each grandchild for their high school graduation. (It is also worth noting she had three of us graduate the same year!)

Exchanging letters after I went to college, which we continued as long as her health allowed.

That she always had fun comments and kept you smiling.

I've struggled to write this post because it is so hard to put into words what she meant to me and my family.

She raised the woman who raised me.

She was classy and wonderful.

She was my mom's biggest cheerleader.

She always made you feel special.

She had a great sense of humor and comedic timing.

She was positive, upbeat, and joyful.

She loved the sunshine and brought sunshine to everyone she loved.

I'm so thankful God made her ours.

This was in a card my mom received and I felt was so true to how I feel...

"Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories."

So happy together!

She and Grandpa drove home from Oklahoma through Nebraska so they could visit us on campus!

Most of the grandkids were there to celebrate her 75th Birthday!

Always so happy when she was dancing!

Beautiful butterhorns!
(A well-loved family recipe.)
