Goodbye to 2022

2022 was a hard year for us. We had quite the plot twist in life and have really had a hard time recovering, BUT there is always hope in finding out what God has planned to turn our hard times into good. We trust that He will! So thankful to reflect on the good times from our year!

School Happenings

History Dioramas

Lorelei portrayed The Signing of The Declaration of Independence. (The floor is made of balsa wood scraps!)

Makin portrayed John Paul Jones, who is considered to be the father of the American Navy.

Math Practice

Most of the time I just grade and let Mrs. Buman take care of the rest, but this afternoon she needed some extra practice so we practiced on the patio!

Erosion

It is always fun when you can add some hand's-on and visuals to go with what you are reading.

Study Style

Lorelei likes to study with Harry Potter music playing when she can!

Cell Bot

One science assignment was to make a cell model that should show what you used to represent each part of the cell. Makin chose to make a Cell Bot.

History Escape Room (Lewis and Clark Expedition)

They escaped with about 30 seconds left and enjoyed this special assignment! Thankful for some amazing online resources!

Research Paper

Lorelei had an assignment for grammar to research a career and present about it. She enjoyed putting together a slideshow.

Book-Turned-Movie Bonus

We love a chance to see a book turned into a movie and enjoyed watching Holes after Makin read it for reading.

School-After-Travel Look

It's brutal to get back to work after a trip! :)

History - Oregon Trail

Our summer field trip was a great intro to learning about the  Oregon Trail. We enjoyed playing the "vintage" game as well as an assignment where they chose what supplies to take on their wagon.

Antbot

Animal Robotics assignment? Sign this guy up! :) This science project was to choose an animal and gather information about it, and then draw a robotic animal and label each tool or equipment you would use and how it would be useful.

He named his robot Myrmekes after the giant ants in the greek myths. His robot ant would be built for use in mines or other digging.

School Out And About

When the coffee shop is unexpectedly closed...you find some grass...

Spelling while big sis volunteers!

Creative Writing

We take a break from our writing curriculum from Thanksgiving through Christmas and enjoy various creative writing assignments. Here is a favorite from Christmas. The assignment was to come up with a Holiday town/theme park and then draw what they wrote about.

Extracurriculars

Lorelei

Polynesian

Lorelei attends Polynesian classes each week and is still loving it! From what I can tell the teacher is doing a great job of pushing them to improve each week!

We had one sneak peek at class in December for parent's day and now we just wait to enjoy the recital in the spring!

Horseback

Lorelei is back to enjoying horseback twice a month!

She was thrilled to get some puppy time as well as they had a litter on the farm this fall!

Volunteering at ManeGait

This girl has been aching to volunteer with animals basically her entire life. She was absolutely floored to discover ManeGait, a therapeutic riding center, that allows 14-year-old volunteers. She signed up as soon as she could and has been going once a week (as long as they are in session) since September.

She is getting so many benefits by helping with this program and hopefully helping others as well!

Makin

Mark Rober Class

Makin was part of a 30-day course on creative building and engineering. He had work to do each day and in the end, created three builds. There were three categories, the first build was mechanical engineering oriented, the second, was electrical engineering, and the third was a blend of both.

His favorite part was being able to build his own builds and being able to watch Mark Rober do his also.

He is now signed up for a monthly subscription to Crunch Labs
(Mark Rober's company) Build Box and is really enjoying it!

Golf

So...this was supposed to be Makin's sport this semester. We mostly failed at that other than the occasional golf outing! Plans to improve next semester. :)

Christmas

We had an extremely restful Christmas this year. :)

Christmas Eve

What a treat it was for Christmas Eve to fall on a Saturday. Brad could enjoy the full day without feeling like he needed to work! Such a treat!

We watched White Christmas and It's A Wonderful Life

A few pics after the candlelight service.

Christmas Day

We had a quiet day just the four of us!

Brad helped fold napkins.

"Napkin folding is exhausting."

Roll selfies.

Pictionary Air

Merry Christmas!
