School Scoop

Some months I take lots of pictures of school activities and some not much, but it seemed like a good time for a quick update even though we are only a month and a half into school!

GCA Days

The moment you discover your 1st grader can quiz your 3rd grader on her spelling words!

I have also gotten a few peeks into GCA lately. Brittany (Also known as Savannah and Charlie's mom...) is the PE teacher this year and sent the moms a few pics. Both kids always rank PE at the top of their day (M has it T and L has it TH) and have loved all of Mrs. Scott's games.

1st Grade, M on the right.
Did I mention the new school building has a gym?

This particular day is a class favorite for both - Broom Ball! (Hopefully you can find each kid in the picture.)

Another mom subbed one day and sent us a picture during 3rd grade history class. :)

I just love how much fun both kids have on their school days. They both get in the car very happy and it is hard for them to pick out the best part. Both of their teachers make learning so fun for them!

Library Days

We have had some fun times on our Wednesday library days. I often feel this day is super chaotic, but its definitely worth it.
Makin usually has more down time than Lorelei.
We love all the STEM activities the library has to offer.

This is part of the chaos. While trying to head out to the library I was also peeling potatoes for the night's supper while giving L her spelling pre-test. The epitome of homeschool multitasking right there.
Since spelling and math are harder for her, we knock those out before we leave for the library.

1st Graders Journaling Together

Sonya leading them in the continents song.

We trade off who does the teaching for the 1st graders a bit more this year.
This time Sonya had math too. :) We just wing it on who-does-what but maybe we will get in a routine one of these days?

Makin trying out the air to see how his paper airplane will fly compared to the scarves.

Studious 3rd Graders

This particular day the girls were working on mapping skills for history.
They had to make a map and then hide an item.
Then another person had to try and find their hidden item based on the x on the map.
This is Albertina (Nayeli's Mom) following L's map.
I have to say I was proud of L's mapping skills!

Sometimes we have a fun lunch with friends after our hard work!

Duck Duck Goose
(We eventually headed to a park too.)

Home Time

Cheerio Bird Feeder and Bird Watching Project

Barnes and Noble Day

I try and give Makin some bonus math some home days because he loves math.
This particular morning I joked that we worked on fractions as he read me the recipe. :)

Checking out Winter Cam during a home recess break.
This doesn't happen often but they had been wanting to check on Winter after the hurricane and we happened to catch a time when the trainers were working with her.

Writing spelling words in the air with his foot.

We are finally getting in the habit of having the kids pack up their lunch the night before school.
Loving it for so many reasons.

Parent Teacher conferences are on a Thursday, so the kids have an off day. We bumped our school work up that day so Friday could just be fun for our field trip. This meant the kiddos had to do roughly 3 subjects each (We snuck a few extras in on Wednesday) on their own while I was gone. They were working like this right before I left and were quite proud how quickly they finished. While there were a few small things I had to go over, I was proud of them!

This girl has some great editing skills!
She immediately started circling banned words and replacing them with better ones.

Field Trip

Okay, so this isn't the official school trip, but was our own personal field trip with some GCA friends! We found out about a Homeschool Anne Of Green Gables Day and thought it sounded like a great opportunity!

Doing Laundry

House Tour

Plowed (Gardening)
Cow Milking (Plastic Cow ;) )

Each child was able to color a square and then put it on a quilt.

One Room Schoolhouse

Games

Dishes

First they shucked some corn and then they fed it to the chickens.

It was a great day! We also read the junior novel version of Anne of Green Gables. This was Lorelei's second time to hear it but Makin and Brad got into it this time too.
Nothing like incorporating a love of literature and history into your family!
