Summer Fun - Spray Park, Solar Oven, Juggler, Friends, Dates, and Garage Sale Find, Compost Cookies

Spray Park - A trip to a spray park was on our summer bucket list. I have taken the kids a few various summers, and was hoping now that they are older it would be something they would play at for an hour...but apparently it is just not their thing! They lasted about 10-15 minutes before asking to play at the park (right next to it) and then spent another 5 minutes there cooling off after roasting a while at the park. So we decided it was a park sandwich day. ;) I think this will be our officially last spray park attempt unless a friend invites them! :) Glad we gave it a try though!

Solar Oven - I had "making a solar oven" on my list as well (It was definitely a list week! Summer is going so fast!) and thankfully realized this was something Brad would love doing. The summer seems extra hard as we drive off for our fun adventures and leave him working away in the office. (Somehow this is much harder than him working while I'm teaching, cleaning or taking them to school! ;) ) When I asked him about it he was excited to have something fun and special to make with the kiddos. (And I was secretly excited to NOT have to make a solar oven!!!)
We decided to try pizzas, which was good in theory, but if you decide to make your own, I would go with s'mores. The kids were not impressed with their solar pizzas. The s'mores were much better. We did have to wait until the next day to heat them up, since we were loosing our sun heat! Our neighbor, Lexi was over playing when the kids tried the solar oven dessert the next day.

Juggler - Another great library event! Makin said, "This was the best one EVER!" :) The juggler did almost all of his juggling in the dark with various light objects, so it made the juggling extra cool. :)

(When they are looking at books is the pre-show...I learned after the first one that new books to look through was going to need to be part of the deal while waiting! Loved the one of their faces when it wasn't dark anymore!)

We loved having summer play dates with friends.

And, aren't these boys going to have fun together in Kindergarten this year!?!

Dates -  Our dates have been harder to plan this summer with travel and our various activities, but we finally squeezed them in the last couple of weeks.

Lorelei and I got some girl time this month. She requested a trip to the mall. We got sweet treats at Barnes and Noble Starbucks, read a few books, rode the carousel, browsed the Disney Store, looked at earrings and tried out some scents at Bath and Body Works. This girl has moments of pure girliness which I enjoy, but she is a great balance. :) She also loves to look "too old" so had to snap one of those shots in B & N! She tried a steamed milk with caramel and marshmallow. :)

Makin and Brad headed to the smaller library close to home for a Lego Workshop they have each Thursday. Then they headed to Subway for supper, since they both love a Subway sandwich. :)

Contrary to how it may seem, we do end up with some down time at home...the kids often play some type of animals. This day they were a puppy and kitty complete with food, water, and beds.

Best Garage Sale Find - The kids and I stopped at a garage sale in our neighborhood Friday morning and were amazed to get these drawers full of Legos...it was such a huge stash I just had to make an exception to the toys-only-at-birthday-and-Christmas rule. They have been busy with tons of Lego building ever since!

Compost Cookies - I have had these on my try list for years...I first heard about them when I could still watch Regis and Kelly...so it been at least 4 years or so I would say! I decided to give them a try this summer and to make it a family event over the weekend. We each got to choose our own add-ins as an attempt to make it more fun...it was a bit of a challenge to get it organized for 4 people...but they were yummy...not sure yummy enough for all that work, but glad we tried them out.

And yes...if you are wondering, we all sleep hard every night!!! :)

  1. So many fun activities! The solar oven is really cool and I can't believe how grown up Lorelei looks in that one picture.
