Cold Start To February

As was everyone else it seems, we got hit by the arctic blast on Tuesday. Thankfully, Brad had already planned to work from home that day, so not too much of a scare on the icy roads. He did run into a lot of problems with internet around here, but did the best he could heading to Starbucks etc., even though they ended up closing early! Around here they do not deal well with the winter weather. Brad ended up working from home Tues, Wed and Friday. Thursday it took him three times longer than normal to get to and from work. Friday we even got somewhere around 6 inches of snow, and I believe I heard the reporter say on the news that the city of Dallas does not even own snow plows. You can imagine what a disaster it is around here.

Tuesday we did most of our fun activities (some mentioned in previous post) and then the other days just got more and more frustrating being stuck inside. Tuesday morning Lorelei wanted to go out in the snow right away and enjoyed trying to catch the flakes with her tongue. We started a fire in the fire place as soon as Brad was done working and then roasted marshmallows right before supper. We don't know which made Lorelei more hyper at bedtime, the marshmallows or powdered sugar on the snowman pancakes...or maybe it was the weather, but she was running circles around us and I'm not sure the last time she was so wound up at bed time! :)

Wednesday brought another cold day and we started our our morning with the power going out...thankfully we still had some firewood left and started a fire to keep us warm. It was only out for about 30 minutes, but we definitely stayed close to the fire to keep warm the rest of the day too.

Hoping for a good warm up and chance to get out of the house next week!

  1. It can't be worse that Virginia Beach's inability to deal with snow! Stay warm, the fireplace looks fabulous.
