School Bits N Pieces - Wrapping up 2nd and 4th

Well, I totally failed to get posts up throughout the school year, so here are our home-school and school moments for 4th and 2nd. Where did the year go!?

We snuck in a chance for outdoor school work.

Hanging out after working at the library.
We didn't work at the library as much this year.

Typical Monday this year...getting school work done at the coffee shop with Dad.
I am usually amazed at how much they focus and get done while I'm teaching yearbook.

Lorelei- 4th Grade
You may notice there aren't many pictures from home this year...Lorelei became very independent and worked in her room at her desk much of the time. She also did most of her "projects" at school, which is what I often get pictures of. I did have some I could download that her teacher sent so that is where many of these came from.

Always loving nature and seeing new things.

Lorelei brought our butterfly enclosure when they were studying bugs in science.
They caught a moth, grasshoppers, ladybugs and rolly pollies during recess and they loved seeing them up-close.

Drawing on King Tut's Tomb in history.

They read the book A Cricket In Times Square and then chose a character to do a character web on from the book.

Lorelei really loved the party they had after reading the book.

Occasionally Brad comes to the rescue with math.

Studying for a science test, phases of the moon.

Lorelei, Reagan, Jaedynn, Kyla and Maddy playing a game at recess.

Division Woes...you can't tell in this picture but we had quite a few tears over long division.

Cute little gift from Ms. Carver during testing week.

Good old Red Rover at recess.

Nathan, a classmate, found an egg randomly (no mother bird near) at the Cathy's Critters field trip.
His mom got an incubator and sure enough, they hatched a baby duckling!
He brought it to school so that they could all meet him.

Makin - 2nd Grade

The habitat was one of my favorite projects. We researched and read tons of books.
I helped print pictures of his requested animals and then he built it all on his own.
My favorite feature was the top where he had some of the trees sticking out over the rest.

The assignment was to hide your spelling words hidden in the picture.
This was in the fall and he chose to draw The Husker's Stadium.

Legos make pretty great game pawns.

Making a robot out of recycled materials may have been his favorite.

He put the recycled materials onto a LEGO motor so that his robot could move.

Mrs. Harris does an entire Mr. Popper's Penguins unit while they read the book.
One of her science assignments was making a toboggan and testing how fast it went down a ramp.
See the penguin in the toboggan?

As they learned about colonial times they worked on Colonial Shops.
Makin and Julia decided to do a print shop and made their own printing press with "ink dabbers."
Makin insisted they needed to have a window for their shop.

We saw solid Crayons turn to liquid in this science-turned-art project.

Mr. Hershey Cerealbox Report - We learned so much reading the biography of Milton Hershey and the cereal box report was such a fun way to capture and present what we learned. Makin came up with the idea of making the box look like a Hershey's Kiss.
