Those Two Weeks

Well, after 10 years of our girl asking for a dog, Brad and I decided it might be the right time to go ahead and get one. It wasn't a rash decision, but we do wish we would have tried dogsitting to see how it went before we jumped in. We originally wanted to foster so that we could get that chance to love on a dog as well as see if our family could handle it, but then after a phone call I realized how much work goes into training those dogs so that they are ready for a home, and I knew we were not prepared for that task. This brought us to getting one we chose because we knew our kids, especially Lorelei, love animals so much.

I was pretty picky when looking for a dog to adopt, but found one that seemed like a good fit. We went through all the hoops needed and eventually brought home who we called Kalea (Hawaiian for filled with joy). Eventually, we determined that Brad is allergic. (I had some itchy eyes but not as consistently as he did.) Growing up with outdoor dogs we really didn't realize it would be an issue. So, we eventually came to the hard decision to give her back to her foster mom.

Here are a few snapshots of our two weeks.

While these are the adorable picture moments, we also had plenty of rough moments where Brad and I scrambled to adjust to the work it takes to have an indoor dog. This was a huge shock to us, so we do not feel it likely we will look into any hypoallergenic dogs. We are definitely worried about how this will affect Lorelei so appreciate prayers for her emotions through this change in what we know is disappointing. Also prayers that this sweet dog finds an amazing home soon.

UPDATE: I had this post waiting to add one more picture for quite a while, and I'm happy to say that I can add that we just got a text that she has found another home with a widow who has grandchildren that visit often. We were overjoyed to get that update and so thankful to the foster mom who knew we would want to hear it.
