Pumpkin Patch Visit

We took a trip the the pumpkin patch today! Brad got the morning off to make up for working overtime, so we wanted to use the chance to make the trip, hoping it would be less crowded than the weekend. It seems we were successful because there were really not that many children there, especially first thing at 9 am. Lorelei and I go back on Wednesday with MOMS group so we'll see how they compare. :)

Our first stop was the petting farm. We had the place to ourselves for probably at least 30 minutes, as the only children at the farm this early were on the hayride. Lorelei could have spent the whole day here! She loved seeing so many different animals. The pictures are a few highlights...one is a goat that seems to think its a horse. Not sure what that is called. One picture is a sign we found amusing...Brad said they must have some pretty smart chickens if they can read and follow directions. :) We also saw a couple of adorable bunnies, which Lorelei proceeded to scare away from us with her excited screams. Of course ducks are always a hit as well. One of the things we were very excited about was her first pony ride...WELL that ended up lasting about two pony steps before she freaked out and got off, clinging to her mother for dear life! We just got an up close and personal pony petting, checking out the eyes and ears etc, and then called it a day. Guess we'll have to wait until she actually asks for a pony ride from now on!

In the petting farm area there is also some playground equipment. One of the sets had a great tire swing that was actually a lot thicker than the usual ones (a race car tire I'm told by my oh-so-smart husband), so a good one for Lorelei to try out. She really enjoyed swinging.

Driving tractor like her grandpas!

Their tractor looked familiar...can tell it has been used! Looks a bit like the ones I have driven. :)

Lorelei's first hayride! After the petting zoo we went on a hayride around the farm. We were able to see some horses and a few other things on the trip, and a lady even talked to us about the different pumpkins and gourds that they had there. Was interesting to hear the different names...I think they did it sell more at their store!

After they hayride we went to a little sort of "patch" they had with mini pumpkins (I think we get one included on Wednesday from here since its a "field trip") and Lorelei enjoyed picking them up, and I enjoyed getting some pictures!

These bumpy orange ones are called "pizza pumpkins" because their skin looks like cheese cooked on a pizza! See how smart I am after the educational hayride? The other one felt like peanut shells...not sure what that one is called, maybe I'll ask on Wednesday!

We had a great time and got one rather large pumpkin to start our collection for this year! Thankfully Brad is the master carver of the family so he got to pick it out...he is hoping for the most seeds! We did refrain from the HUGE pumpkins they had, which were going for $50!!! They sure looked cool though. :)

Now Lorelei is sleeping soundly...maybe the cool air will make for a great nap!
