One Nasty Bug

It started Wednesday. Lorelei had a low fever and didn't feel great, but by Thursday the fever was gone and she was okay. Still cranky and not much of an appetite, but I assumed she was on the mend from whatever it was. Then early Friday morning we woke up to her crying in her room and that she had thrown up. This was the first of many to come. I called the pediatrician first thing when their office opened and heard the usual "Yes this is going around, give her 1 tsp of Pedialyte one hour after she has thrown up." She did okay in the morning but after nap we could not even do any Pedialyte and blood was showing up with the throw up as well. Yes, that freaked me out and I called again and they said it was just the throat or stomach being aggravated. She was also completely lethargic and wouldn't even talk. Finally I called and made an appointment.

By the time we got to the pediatrician at 8:15 pm (this was the earliest they could get her in, but thankfully they have late hours) she had thrown up about 15 times. Brad and Makin came with us as I was worried about her throwing up on the way there and me not being able to pull over etc. They drove around while I went in. After weighing in at 28 lbs (last time she was there she was 31...made me sad already) and being checked over, the doctor said she needed to go to the ER as she was dehydrated and then threw in, "and I'm a little worried about appendicitis." Of course, this had us very worried, but thankfully they ruled that out in the ER. Around 12:30 they finally decided they wanted to keep her overnight. At this point Makin thought the ER was tons of fun and had no desire to go to sleep. He and Brad headed home to get sleep and I slept in Lorelei's room. The most excitement we had heard all day was when the nurse came to move her to her hospital room in a wagon. She said "Like Lily!" and was excited to ride in it to her room.

In the morning she was able to keep down a couple of popsicles and then gradually more food. The doctors told us the normal CO2 level is 20, they admit people when they are down to 17 for being dehydrated and Lorelei was down to 13. They also had to test for a few other things like kidney infection etc, so we had some unfun things in order to do that, but all came up negative. Just a nasty stomach bug. We finally got to head home around 4 pm. We are very thankful that we were able to have her at the children's hospital here. This is the hospital we will go to for Makin's upcoming surgeries. And hopefully that is the only time we see it again! Lorelei's highlight was as we were leaving and she saw a statue of Mickey Mouse. She is big into, "I want to go see them." with all of her show characters, so was thrilled to see Mickey and give him a hug.

Sunday Lorelei was mostly back to normal, just got worn out very easily. So glad to see her playing with play doh!
